COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers, which is a relatively young team with just one senior, put forth a great season despite suffering an unfortunate 3-2 loss to Dixie in the opening playoff game.

The lone senior on the team is Caleb Smith, an outstanding player for the Buccs who has pitched so well throughout the season. He pitched very well once again against Dixie as he went the distance, but the Buccaneers were not able to score enough runs to capture the win.

The Buccs opened up the scoring with a run in the second inning, but Dixie was able to score three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Covington was able to score one more run throughout the rest of the game, but it wasn’t enough to record the win.

Overall, the Buccaneers were only able to connect on three hits throughout the game with Tyler Palsgrove going 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

The Buccaneers finished their season with a 12-12 record and have plenty of talent returning in 2027. Plus, the outstanding coaching staff led by head coach David Heffelfinger has built an outstanding culture in the program. Hopefully this leads to more success in the future.
