LADY BUCCS ADVANCE WITH 21-0 WIN

COVINGTON – In the second round of the post-season tournament, the Covington Lady Buccs put together a dominating 21-0 victory over Jackson Center.

The next contest in the tournament for Covington is a home game against Botkins on May 18th at 5:00pm. However, the Lady Buccs proceed a regular season game at Lehman Catholic tomorrow at 5:00pm.

In the game against Jackson Center, the Lady Buccs only allowed two hits and two walks throughout the entire game. Whitney Burns started the game and pitched through three innings to pick up the win and Cassidy Iddings closed out the game in the final two innings to preserve the victory.

Defensively, the Lady Buccs only committed one error throughout the game and that happened in the final inning when the outcome was secured.

Offensively, Covington pounded out 21 hits as Jayda McClure led the way with a perfect five hits in five at bats. She hit her 13th home run of the season in the second inning and also connected on a triple, a double and two singles. McClure drove in five runs and scored four times.

Jayda McClure’s home run pushed Covington’s team total to 51 home runs this season.

Ava Hartwig went 4-for-5 at the plate with three doubles, four RBIs and scored three times, while Emalyn Johnson went 2-for-2 with a triple and scored three runs. Taylor Foutz, Cassidy Iddings and Karlee Schwartz connected on two hits each as Iddings drilled a double as well. Additional hits were connected by Kylie Palsgrove, Nell Rogers and Whitney Burns.

The Lady Buccs are now 21-5 and have the potential to capture several more wins if they continue to play at the high level.
