LADY BUCCS OPEN STATE TOURNAMENT WITH 23-1 WIN

COVINGTON – In the opening round of the post-season tournament, the Covington Lady Buccs took care of business with a dominating 23-1 victory over Springfield Catholic Central on Monday.

Next the Lady Buccs host Jackson Center on Wednesday at 5:00pm.

Springfield Catholic Central started off the top of the first inning by putting the bases loaded and then scored a run due to a batter hit by a pitch. Fortunately the Lady Buccs didn’t allow another run by capturing a critical out.

Throughout the rest of the game the Lady Buccs put together a dominating performance by scoring 23 runs in four innings at bat. It started with six runs in the first inning and then continued with two runs in the second, 11 in the third and four more in the fourth.

Jayda McClure hit two home runs in the game to push her season total to 12 home runs. It also pushed the team’s total of home runs to 50 in this season, which is now the record in the history of the program.

The Lady Buccs tallied 18 hits throughout the game, while Springfield Catholic Central accumulated seven hits.

Covington’s season record at this point is now 20-5, which is now the 18th season with at least 20 wins since 1976.
