
ANSONIA – The Covington Buccaneers continued their progression on Saturday by overcoming a 3-1 deficit against Ansonia and beating the Tigers 5-3.
Covington was the first team to get on the board when Caiden Hollingsworth doubled, scoring one run in the first inning.
Unfortunately, Ansonia took the lead 3-1 in the bottom of the third after Caleb Eubank was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Karsen Weiss singled, scoring two runs.
The Buccaneers responded two inning later to take a 4-3 lead. The three runs were led due to important singles by Brairen Denson, and Caiden Hollingsworth.
Covington was able to score one more run and shut down Ansonia throughout the rest of the game.
Brairen Denson earned the win for the Buccs as the pitcher. He gave up three hits and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking none.
Hunter McMillion started on the hill for Covington. He gave up three hits and three runs over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking five.
Covington collected nine hits in the game. Caiden Hollingsworth and Brairen Denson were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Buccs.
Karsen Weiss went 3-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.
The Buccs are now 11-9 in the season and host Jackson Center on Tuesday.
