
COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers defeated Milton-Union 7-3 to capture their fourth straight win to improve their overall record to 9-9 and push their league record to 7-5.
The was a very gratifying victory for the Buccs as it revenged a 5-4 loss to the Bulldogs a few weeks ago. Plus, it showcased how much this relatively young Buccaneer team is progressing down the stretch of the regular season and putting themselves into contention for success in the post-season tournament.
Milton-Union opened up the game by scoring in the first inning after Hunter Fraley singled, scoring one run. That wouldn’t have happened if the Buccaneers didn’t commit an error that extended the opportunity for the Bulldogs with two outs.
The Buccaneers responded quickly by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead. Talon Pergram started off the momentum with a tripled that scored two runs by Gunner Uderman and Brairen Denson and then Tyler Palsgrove singled to put another run on the board by Pergram. Finn Rogers followed cup with a sacrifice drive that scored Palsgrove.

Covington added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Hunter McMillion singled to right field, and Brairen Denson doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
The Buccs then added one more run in the third due to a walk drawn by Hunter McMillion. This pushed Covington’s lead to 7-1.
Milton-Union was able to score twice throughout the rest of the game, but the Buccaneers executed well enough to eliminate any comeback victory for the Bulldogs.
Hunter McMillion earned the win for the Buccs as he pitched throughout the entire game. Overall, McMillion only surrendered five hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings. He struck out eight batter and only walked one.
Talon Pergram drove the middle of the lineup, leading Covington with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Christian Skaggs and Caiden Hollingsworth each collected two hits for the Buccs.
Covington will look to continue well execution traveling to Lehman Catholic for their next game on Tuesday.
