COVINGTON – The Covington Tomorrow Club extended the annual Pancake Day for the 60th straight year for a benefit to Covington community members.

The Pancake Day was started by Covington Kiwanis and years later the Covington Noon Optimist joined in to help maintain the tradition. The Covington Kiwanis and Covington Noon Optimist no longer exist, which led to the Covington Tomorrow Club taking place to keep the annual Pancake Day extended.

With numbers declining and less help from community members, the Covington Tomorrow Club decided this will be the last year that the club will do pancake day. Fortunately, the Pancake Day will possibly be extended by the Covington Events Association.

“In years past we would do well over a one-thousand meals with the last three years around 325 to 350,” mentioned Glen Hollopeter, a longtime contributor to this event. “We have turned it over to the festival committee to carry on the tradition.”

If it was not for the generous sponsors and the Covington Fraternal Order Of Eagles, the Covington Tomorrow Club would not have been successful in raising money over the years. A large amount of proceeds from this year will be donated to the festival committee (Covington Events Association) to put on the event School House Park Rocks.

“Thank you to all of our volunteers, the sponsors, and to all who have patronized Pancake Days over the last sixty years,” Hollopeter said. “In remembrance of those before us who started Pancake Day we say ‘Thank you and God Bless’.”
