BUCCS DEFEATED NORTHRIDGE 12-2

COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers easily dispatched Northridge 12-2 on the home field Thursday.

The Buccaneers are 3-0 on the home field, 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the TRC.

Covington jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Hunter McMillion singled, scoring two runs, and a wild pitch scored one run.

A single by Brairen Denson extended the Covington’s lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the second inning and a single by James Kuether, plus an error by Northridge helped the Buccaneers extend their early lead in the third.

Covington scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Christian Skaggs was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, James Kuether drew a walk, scoring one run, Tyler Palsgrove grounded out, scoring two runs, and Gunner Uderman drew a walk, scoring one run.

Brairen Denson earned the win for Covington. The hurler allowed five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking one. Worthington took the loss for Northridge. The starting pitcher went three and one-third innings, allowing 11 runs (five earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking four.

Hunter McMillion drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Buccs with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Finn Rogers, Gunner Uderman, James Kuether, Hunter McMillion, Brairen Denson, and Talon Pergram each collected one hit for Covington. Gunner Uderman paced Covington with three walks.

Overall, the Buccaneers had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. The Buccs turned one double play in the game and were sure-handed in the field as they didn’t commit a single error. Colton Goins had the most chances in the field with nine.

Next up for Covington is a game at Milton-Union tomorrow.
