BUCCS DEFEAT THE EAGLES 4-3

COVINGTON – Covington beat Troy Christian 4-3 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game to improve their record to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the TRC.

The game was tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when junior Caiden Hollingsworth drew a walk, which scored the game-winning run.

Troy Christian started off with run in the top of the first inning due to a double by Landon Day.

After two scoreless innings, Covington jumped into the lead in the bottom of the third when Brairen Denson singled, scoring two runs, and Hollingsworth doubled, scoring one run.

Logan Broomhall singled down the right field line, which helped Troy Christian tie the game at three in the top of the fifth.

Hunter McMillion earned the win for Covington as the pitcher who went the entire distance. The righty allowed five hits and three runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking three. Logan Cool took the loss for Troy Christian. The starter went five innings, giving up four runs on four hits, striking out three and walking four.

Denson and Hollingsworth were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Buccs. Number eight hitter, Talon Pergram, showed the depth of Covington’s lineup, by leading them with two hits in two at bats.

Broomhall provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Troy Christian with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. The Eagles were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Jake Grossnickle had the most chances in the field with eight.

Next up for Covington is a game at Arcanum on Saturday.
