THREE SCHOOL RECORDS WERE BROKEN AT THE DISTRICT MEET

PIQUA – Four Covington athletes advanced to the regional meet by finishing in the top four of events as three of them set new school records – Day’Lynn Garrett, Elyza Long and Preston King.

Day’Lynn Garrett broke the school record and the meet record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.71. The previous school record was set in 2013 by Troy Cron in the time of 14.85. Day’Lynn also won the long jump with a distance of 20 feet and one-half inch.

Elyza Long also advanced to the regional meet in two events, the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. She won the 1600 by breaking the school record with the time of 5:11.53. She had the previous record, which she set earlier in this season with a time of 5:12.24. Elyza finished second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:45.74.

Preston King advanced to regional by finishing second in the high jump with the height of 6’ 7”. This height broke school record he established earlier this season with a height of 6’ 6”.

One more Buccaneer advanced to the regional meet, senior Beck Wilson. He finished fourth in the 1600 meter run in the time of 4:37.08.

Team wise, the boys finished sixth with 43 team points and the girls finished 11th with 19.50 team points.

2nd – Preston King – High Jump – 6’ 7” (School Record)
4th – Beck Wilson – 1600 Meter Run – 4:37.08

GIRLS REGIONAL QUALIFIERS:
1st – Elyza Long – 1600 Meter Run – 5:11.53 (School Record)
2nd – Elyza Long – 3200 Meter Run – 11:45.74
