PIQUA – The Covington boys and girls track programs had a successful day in the Division III District meet in Piqua as the girls advanced to regionals in nine events and the boys advanced in six events.
The girls finished tied for fourth in the team standings with 72 points, while the boys fifth as a team with 62 team points.
Individually, the girls had two district champions and the boys had one. Carlie Besecker won the 400 meter (1:01.20), Elyza Long won the 3200 (12:05.42, and Asher Long won the 3200 for the boys in the time of 10:02.35.
For the girls, Carlie Besecker advanced to regionals in four events, Elyza Long and Johanna Welborn advanced in three events, while Hannah Alexander and Kassidy Turner advanced in two events to become multiple regional qualifiers.
DeAnthony Bennett was the lone multiple regional qualifier for the boys as he advanced in three events by taking second in the long jump and third in both the 100 and 200.
