ONE INNING COST LADY BUCCS IN A LOSS

COVINGTON – In six out of the seven innings, the Covington. Lady Buccs played well defensively, but unfortunately the five runs scored by Riverside in the top of the sixth led to a 7-6 defeat.

Riverside was only able to score one run. In the first and one more in the fifth, which both were on home runs. Still, the Lady Buccs held a 4-2 lead heading into the sixth inning by scoring three runs in the first and another run in the fourth inning. Two home runs were hit in the first inning by Covington, one by Ava Hartwig and the other by Cassidy Iddings.

The Lady Pirates tied the score at 4-4 with two runs to start off the sixth inning and Covington had an opportunity to end the inning with a third out on a short foul ball. Unfortunately, the ball hit the ground and Riverside was able to take advantage by scoring three more runs to take a 7-4 lead.

Covington responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth with one out and a runner still on base, but Riverside was able to make a double play to end the inning.

Neither team was able to score in the final inning, which ended the game for Covington in a one-point loss.

Both teams accumulated 14 hits and committed three errors.

Covington’s record is now 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the TRC with a huge matchup at home against Miami East to come on Thursday.
