FAIRBORN – The Covington Lady Buccs closed out an outstanding 2026 volleyball season by finishing as district runner-up after falling to a very talented Russia team in three sets in the district championship match.
The Lady Buccs battled throughout the contest but ultimately fell to Russia by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-14.
Despite the loss, Covington demonstrated the determination, resilience and competitive spirit that fueled the team’s impressive improvement throughout the second half of the season.
“Russia was more physical than us, but we continued to showcase our grit and unwillingness to quit,” commented Covington coach Sloane Green. “We finished as the district runner-up, and that’s nothing to hang our heads about. These seniors have provided great leadership for our team and have been great role models for the future of Covington volleyball.”
A major factor in Covington’s success was the leadership and dedication of its seven seniors: Ramsé Vanderhorst, Ava Hartwig, Kylie Palsgrove, Allison Sink, Nadia Ramirez, Cassidy Iddings and Mary Larson.
Each of these seniors played an important role in helping the Lady Buccs overcome challenges, develop confidence and establish the teamwork necessary to compete at a high level.
After starting the season with a 4-6 record, Covington made tremendous strides by winning 10 of its final 15 matches to finish with an overall record of 14-11.
The team’s improvement became even more evident during the postseason, as the Lady Buccs elevated their level of play and advanced all the way to the district championship match.
Although the season ended one victory short of a district title, the Lady Buccs have plenty to be proud of. Their perseverance, commitment and impressive progress throughout the season provided memorable moments for the players, coaches and Covington community.
The seven seniors leave behind a positive legacy of leadership and determination that will help establish a strong foundation for the future of the Covington volleyball program.
Congratulations to the Covington Lady Buccs, coach Sloane Green and the entire coaching staff on a memorable and successful 2026 season!
