GREENVILLE – The Covington softball team suffered two unfortunate losses to Tri-Village and Greenville in a double-header on Saturday to drop their record to 3-2 in the early part of the season.
In the first game, the Lady Buccs suffered a crushing 15-3 defeat to Tri-Vilage in five innings. Things didn’t go well in the start of the game as Tri-Village scored 10 runs in the first inning and pushed its lead to 15-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lady Buccs tried to battle back by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to eliminate the run-rule victory for Tri-Village.
In the second game the Lady Buccs battled hard against Greenville, but came short in a 6-5 loss.
Covington scored two runs in the top of the first and then pushed their lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning.
Greenville tied the score at 4-4 in the sixth inning, but the Lady Buccs were able to give themselves a chance for a victory by scoring a run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. What made the initial success for the Lady Buccs was two home runs by Elizabeth Coblentz and Ava Hartwig.
Unfortunately, Greenville was able to hand Covington its second straight defeat by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Lady Buccs need to find their consistency in the next game that is scheduled on Monday at Northmont.
