COVINGTON – The rainy weather wasn’t ideal, but the Covington Lady Buccs were able to end the game very quickly by recording a 13-1 victory over Bethel in five innings.

Bethel started off the game in fashion by scoring a run in the top of the first, but Covington responded well in the bottom half of the inning by scoring two runs. Ava Hartwig started things off with a triple and then Jayda McClure drilled a home run to give Covington a 2-1 lead.

Covington then dominated the rest of the game by scoring five runs in the second and six more in the third to take a 13-1 lead.

That was everything needed to record a run-rule victory as the Lady Buccs prevented Bethel from scoring any more runs through the next two innings.

Overall, Jayda McClure had a huge day as she went 3-for-3 with two home runs and drove in five runs. Cassidy Iddings also connected on a home run as well.

The Lady Buccs pounded out 13 hits and didn’t commit a single error throughout the entire game. Whitney Burns pitched well as she allowed just four hits to Bethel.

Covington improves its record to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the TRC. Tomorrow is a huge match-up against Russia on the home field.
