
TROY – Covington overcame a sluggish part in the bottom of the third inning to defeat Troy Christian 15-5 in five innings.
Surprisingly, Troy Christian scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Lady Buccs were able to overcome that by plating 15 runs in three innings – five in the second, six in the third and four in the fifth inning.
Covington tallied 16 hits to just two for Troy Christian, but committed two unfortunate errors defensively.
Elizabeth Coblentz pounded out a home run and two doubles and Ava Hartwig also drilled a home run, while Taylor Foutz, Cassidy Iddings and Whitney Burns connected on doubles as well.
Whitney Burns recorded the win in the circle, while Jayda McClure came in and recorded the save.
Covington struck out four times, while Troy Christiian struck out seven times.
The Win improves Covington’s record to 9-7 overall and 4-3 in the TRC. Next up is a road game at Bethel on Thursday.
