COVINGTON – Covington improved its overall record to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in the TRC with a convincing 26-3 victory over Troy Christian in five innings on Tuesday.
The Lady Buccs got out to a fast start by scoring 14 runs in the first inning and then rotated in all of the younger players on the roster throughout the rest of the game.
Even with the younger players on the field, Covington was able to score a run in the second, eight in the third and three more in the fourth. It was still a learning experience as Covington made some miscues in the field in the top of the third that allowed three runs for Troy Christian.
Erika Gostomsky started the game and tossed one inning to pick up the win, while Whitney Burns threw in the second and third innings and Jayda McClure finished the game by tossing the fourth and fifth innings. The trio combined for a three-hitter and six strikeouts.
Nigella Reck connected on her 11th home run on the season with a line drive shot in the first inning that cleared the fence. Meg Rogers had two triples and four RBI, while Kamryn Barnes drilled two doubles and drove in four runs. Whitney Burns, Karyanne Turner and Elizabeth Coblentz all doubled as well.
The Lady Buccs tallied 24 hits with ten players contributing to the total.
Covington travels to New Bremen tomorrow in a make-up game.
