COVINGTON – After suffering two straight losses, the Lady Buccs regrouped on Tuesday by defeating Bethel 12-2 in five innings.
Covington is now 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the TRC.
The Lady Buccs started off with a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Bethel was able to tie the game at 2-2 in the second inning due to a critical error by Covington. Fortunately, the Lady Buccs played very well defensively throughout the rest of the game.
Covington took a 3-2 lead in the third inning and then extended the lead to 5-2 in the fourth inning. The game became in complete control by the Lady Buccs as they scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Lady Buccs then loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning and Taylor Foutz closed out the game by scoring at the home plate due to a passed ball.
The biggest impact for the Lady Buccs was the eight errors committed by Bethel and the outstanding pitching by senior Whitney Burns. She went the distance and only allowed four hits throughout the game.
Covington tallied eight hits with Emalyn Johnson going 2-for-2 with a double and Ava Hartwig going 2-for-3 with a double. Cassidy Iddings hit a home run, Karlee Schwartz had a triple and Kylie Palsgrove connected on a double. Emma Ouellette also connected on a base hit.
The Lady Buccs host Milton-Union tomorrow in another critical game in the league. This game will be “Senior Night”.
