BROOKVILLE – The Covington Lady Buccs overcame a rough start in the first set to regroup with an impressive win over Brookville in four sets.
The victory is gratifying for the entire teams as they provided the first victory for the new head coach Sloane Green.
“I’m really proud of our resilience and being able to work through the nerves of our first match, after the first set,” commented Sloane Green. “Brookville really challenged us and it’s great to see the grit this team has.”
Covington lost the first set 25-13, but flipped the momentum by capturing a 25-17 victory in the second set.
The third set was extremely tight, but fortunately the Lady Buccs were able to capture a 28-26 win to tackle a 2 set to 1 lead. This carried the momentum for Covington in the fourth set as the Lady Buccs won 25-20 to close out the contest.
Statistically, Ramsé Vanderhorst put forth a great night on defense by finishing with 42 digs, half of which were in the 3rd set (28-26). Ava Hartwig led the team in kills with 14, while Nadia Ramirez and Kylie Palsgrove each had 4 aces.
The Lady Buccs (1-0) travel to Anna on Saturday at 10:00am for another critical non-conference contest.
