BRADFORD – It was one of those games where it seemed everything went right for Covington and everything went wrong for Bradford in a 26-0 victory for the Lady Buccs.
Last year the Lady Buccs suffered the same fate in a 25-3 loss to Bradford on Covington’s home field. It was apparent the Lady Buccs were pumped up before the game even though the weather conditions were not ideal.
Covington came out swinging in the top of the first with a six-run inning. The big hit came on a home run by Nigella Reck over the center field fence.
The Lady Buccs kept the momentum rolling with a four-run second inning as Reck connected on another home run, this time over the left field fence.
Covington scored 10 runs in the top of the third, capped by a grand slam by Mara Newhouse to push the lead to 20-0.
The Lady Buccs scored 2 more in the fourth and 4 in the top of the fifth to increase their advantage to 26-0.
Covington was impressive at the plate, as it pounded out 24 hits on the night – 11 going for extra bases.
Senior hurler Meg Rogers was equally impressive as she tossed a no-hitter and allowed just two walks . She struck out nine of the 17 batters she faced.
Covington improves to 2-0 and will travel to Troy Christian tomorrow (Tuesday).
