LADY BUCCS HAVE A HISTORIC SENIOR NIGHT

COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs put together a memorable 22-6 victory Milton-Union on a night where records were broken and the seniors were honored with their great parents.

The five seniors – Nell Rogers, Jayda McClure, Taylor Foutz, Whitney Burns and Emma Ouellette – are key leaders on this outstanding softball team for Covington and they were all fortunately provided a very impressive game in front of a large crowd. The win advances the team record to 18-4 overall and 9-2 in the TRC.

What made the game so much more exciting was the performance of junior standout Emalyn Johnson as she tied a state record with four home runs in this game. She also tied the school record with 15 home runs in the season and broke the school record with 30 career home runs. Johnson has several more games throughout the rest of her career and she will likely set more records.

Two more Lady Buccs, Nell Rogers and Ava Hartwig, connected on home runs to push the team total to 46 home runs so far this season. The program’s record of home runs in a season was set last year with 48.

The Lady Buccs started off with a solo home run in the first inning by Emalyn Johnson and then Nell Rogers and Ava Hatwig connected on home runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Milton-Union battled back in the third inning with a three-run home run to close the gap to 4-3, but the Lady Buccs responded with nine more runs in the third inning to take a commanding 13-3 lead. The biggest hits in that inning were two home runs by Emalyn Johnson.

Covington then scored nine more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Emalyn Johnson connected on her fourth home run in the game.

With a 22-3 lead heading into the top of the fifth, Covington pulled out the seniors to be honored by the large crowd who was there to support the team. Milton-Union was able to score three more runs, but the outcome of the game was already secured.

The Lady Buccs tallied 18 hits and didn’t strike out throughout the game. They also took advantage of four Milton-Union error and drew three walks.

Emalyn Johnson went 4-for-4 with four home runs and recorded seven RBIs. Taylor Foutz went 3-for-4, while Emma Ouellette went 2-for-2 with a double, Nell Rogers 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, Ava Hartwig 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, Jayda McClure 2-for-4 with a double and Cassidy Iddings went 2-for-3. Whitney Burns also connected with a hit and captured the win as the pitcher.

Next the Lady Buccs play at Lehman next Tuesday, May 5th.
