PLEASANT HILL – Covington suffered an unfortunate season-ending loss to Lehman, a team the Lady Buccs had beaten twice during the regular season.
Lehman had so much more high energy on the floor and in the stands than Covington as the Cavalier crowd was loud and supportive. This sparked the team as Lehman jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the opening set. The Lady Buccs were able to battle back to close the gap to 15-13, but several serving and hitting errors led to a 25-17 loss for Covington in the opening set.
The Lady Buccs were able to win the second set 25-20, but were not able to get back to the aggressiveness and high energy that led the team to a league title earlier in the year.
Lehman, who communicated well on the floor as there voices were heard clearly in the stands, was able to take advantage of Covington’s mistakes to take over the momentum in the third set with a 25-18 victory.
The momentum for Lehman carried out through the fourth and final set as the Lady Buccs lost 25-23 to end the season.
The loss was devastating for Covington as the Lady Buccs had themselves in the best possible situation to win at least a district championship as they had already defeated the teams in the path earlier in the season.
Covington ends its season with an 18-6 record.
