COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs volleyball team dropped their second game of the season in a four-set defeat against Jackson Center.

This is the fifth straight non-conference game as Covington has a 3-2 record at this point of the season. The wins were against Brookville, Bradford and Newton and the two losses were to Anna and Jackson Center, both in the Shelby County league.

“Tough loss!,” commented Covington’s coach Sloane Green. “We played tough and gritty at times, but couldn’t sustain it throughout. Credit to Jackson Center for staying steady and challenging our block and defense.”

Jackson Center won the first two sets by the scores of 25-17 and 25-21, but the Lady Buccs seemed to regroup by capturing a 25-21 victory in the second set.

Unfortunately, Jackson Center was able to close out the match by handing Covington a very close loss by the score of 25-22. If the Lady Buccs were able to find a way to secure the fourth set victory to increase the match to a fifth set, the final outcome of the contest may have been different.

Ava Hartwig had 10 kills and Kylie Palsgrove compiled 9. Nadia Ramirez recorded 3 aces.

Another player had a huge impact in the game for the Lady Buccs, freshman Mikayla Jacomet.

“Brought Mikayla Jacomet up and was pleased with what she offered our team with a mature showing,” coach Green mentioned.

The Lady Buccs will begin their TRC matchups at Riverside tomorrow night and then host Miami East on Thursday.
