
MINSTER – It was a non-conference game and the Lady Buccs found themselves in a tough situation in an 8-4 loss to Minster on Monday.
Neither team managed to score a run in the first inning, but Minster put two runs across the plate in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Buccs scored a run in the top of the third on a solo home run by Emalyn Johnson, but Minster retained a two-run lead after three innings by scoring a run in the bottom of the third.
The Lady Buccs put themselves in position to take over the momentum by scoring two runs in the top of the fourth to tie the score at 3-3 and then tied the score at 4-4 min the top of the fourth with another run. Unfortunately, Minster scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth to hand the Lady Buccs their third loss of the season.
Minster outhit Covington 10 to 6 on the day and overcame three errors on defense.
What hurt the Lady Buccs the most was the 11 strikeouts committed in the game, while Minster only struck out four times.
The loss drops Covington’s record to 5-3 on the season and next is a critical non-conference game tomorrow (Tuesday) at Northmont.
