
COVINGTON – The Lady Buccs run-ruled Riverside in five innings for the second time this season and the final score was 26-7 on the home field.
A couple weeks ago Covington defeated Riverside 14-3 and today the game started out extremely impressive as the Lady Buccs built a 12-0 lead in the first inning. Covington then scored six runs in the second and three more in the third to take a commanding 21-0 lead.
With a significant margin on the scoreboard, Covington rotated younger players on the field throughout the rest of the game. Riverside was able to take advantage of two errors by the Lady Buccs in the top of the fourth inning by scoring seven runs, three of them happening on a home run.
Still, the Lady Buccs responded with five more runs in the bottom of the fourth and then shut down Riverside scoreless in the top of the fifth to end the game.
Overall ten of the thirteen players for the Lady Buccs were able to record hits, which led to 23 of them within the game. Eleven of the hits by Covington were extra bases as Cassidy Iddings and Kylie Palsgrove hit home runs, while Nell Rogers, Emalyn Johnson and Ava Hartwig drilled triples. Plus, Jayda McClure connected on three doubles and Taylor Foutz pounded out two doubles.
Covington is now 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the TRC. The next game is on the road tomorrow at Russia in a non-conference game.
