COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs took care of business by dominating neighboring rival Bradford in a three-set victory by the scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-8.
This victory improves Covington’s overall record to 16-4 and 4-4 in non-conference games.
The Lady Buccs didn’t start out well as Bradford was able to stay in contention early in the first set as Bradford only trailed 11-8 in the opening set.
Fortunately, the Lady Buccs took control after that as senior Taylor Kirker served nine straight points to put Covington up 21-8. This led to a convincing 25-11 win in the opening set.
Kirker ended up with nine aces throughout the entire contest.
Covington kept the momentum in the second set as Bradford never got two points in a row, which led to a 25-13 victory for the Lady Buccs to push the advantage to 2-0 in two sets.
The third set for Covington was totally dominating due to aggressive serving as Taylor Kirker served eight straight points that led to a 25-8 victory to close out the contest.
Covington will face Bradford once again in the opening round of the state tournament on Saturday, October 19th at 2:00pm at Newton High School. The Lady Buccs, who are now 16-4 overall, are seeded second in the bracket.
Still, there are critical two games left in the regular season schedule for the Lady Buccs as they host Riverside tomorrow for “Senior Night” and travel to Miami East on Thursday.
