COVINGTON – The unpredictable weather forced Covington to adjust its original schedule, which led to a matchup against Sidney on Thursday at Covington High School.

And the Lady Buccs were able to maintain their early season hot streak by rolling to a 14-5 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Sidney opened the top of the first with a home run, but Covington responded in the bottom half of the inning by scoring four runs and then pushed the lead to 7-2 with three runs in the bottom of the second.

Sidney got itself back into the game by taking advantage of two errors by Covington for three runs in the top of the third and held the Lady Buccs scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 7-5.

The Lady Buccs clamped down defensively and held Sidney scoreless the rest of the way, while the offense continued to find success putting runs across the plate. Covington scored four runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth to close out the contest.

Covington tallied 17 hits on the day with Karyanne Turner and Nigella Reck leading the way with four hits a piece. Turner also drove in five runs.

Erika Gostomsky picked up the win in the circle as she went four innings before being replaced by Meg Rogers. Gostomsky allowed five hits and struck out four, while Rogers allowed one hit and struck out four batters in three innings of work.

Covington hosts Arcanum tomorrow (Friday) in another game that wasn’t originally on the schedule.
