
DAYTON – The Covington softball team defeated Northridge 14-1 in five innings on Tuesday to improve to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in the TRC.
Covington racked up 17 hits on the day with Kamryn Barnes and Taylor Foutz leading the team with three hits each. Ava Hartwig, Nell Rogers and Kylie Palsgrove had two hits each, while Emalyn Johnson, Elizabeth Coblentz, Stevi Newhouse, Karyanne Turner and Bella Batdorf all had one hit.
The Lady Buccs had some huge hits, four of them being home runs by Bella Batdorf, Karyanne Turner, Elizabeth Coblentz and Stevi Newhouse. Taylor Foutz connected on a double as well.
Jayda McClure and Stevi Newhouse combined to record a no-hitter despite one run going across the plate for Northridge in the bottom of the fifth. McClure picked up the win by throwing the first two innings and Newhouse tossed the final three innings to record a save.
The Lady Buccs travel to Miami East tomorrow (Wednesday) in a critical TRC matchup between two teams who are at the top of the league standings.
