SIDNEY – Covington had a strong showing on Tuesday in a huge victory over Lehman where the Lady Buccs won in four sets by the scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-19 and 25-21.
The victory improves Covington’s overall record to 7-2 on the season and 5-0 in the TRC.
“It was a team effort,” said Covington coach Stephanie Robinson. “We struggled a little bit in the second set, but we came back strong in the last two sets to win the match.”
The difference in the game was Covington’s defense, strong serving and aggressive hitting.
“We had one-hundred-and-fifteen digs as a team because there were a lot of volleys,” Robinson said. “Plus, sixty-four kills as a team were huge. We played well in all phases throughout much of the match.”
Ramse Vanderhorst put forth a great defensive performance by recording 33 digs. Hollan Koffer led the team with 23 kills and Taylor Kirker had four aces. Kirker also had 25 assists and 27 digs, while Addison Ventura had 26 assists, 20 digs and 12 kills. Dakohta Kenworthy had 15 kills and nine digs, while Mazelle Reck had three kills, seven digs and two aces. Nell Rogers played very well too as she tallied seven digs.
It wasn’t all about the stats that led to the win. It was the overall contribution of the entire team.
“It was about being positive with themselves and their teammates,” Robinson said in regards to winning a key matchup in the TRC. “When we struggled in the second set, that is what pulled us through. All of the girls played really well.”
Covington, a team that has won seven games in a row, is looking to keep the momentum rolling on Thursday at Riverside.
