
COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs are now 2-1 in the early point of the season by defeating Bradford in four sets in the first contest on the home volleyball court.
The opening set wasn’t ideal for the Lady Buccs as they made too many mistakes that ignited Bradford to high energy. The Lady Railroaders built an early lead and held the momentum in a score of 21-17. Covington battled back to tie the score at 23-23, but Bradford closed out the first set with two straight points for a 25-23 victory.
After gathering together as a team before the start of the second set, the Lady Buccs refocused very well. It was obvious as Covington scored 13 straight points to open the second set. Bradford had a hard time to rebound as the Lady Buccs cruised to a 25-5 win to tie the match at 1-1.
The momentum carried on into the third set as the Lady Buccs built a 12-4 lead to force a timeout by Bradford. Covington outscored Bradford 13-7 throughout the rest of the set to take a 2-1 lead with an impressive 25-11 victory.
The match was closed out in the fourth set as Covington won 25-12.
Covington’s JV team competed against Stebbins and won in two sets.
The Lady Buccs have another non-league contest this Thursday at home against Newton.
