COVINGTON – Coming off of back-to-back defeats, Covington’s 9-2 win over Bethel is much a needed confidence boost for the Lady Buccs with the upcoming opponents on the schedule throughout the rest of the week.
The Lady Buccs started off fast as Mara Newhouse led off the game with a walk and Nigella Reck drilled a line drive that cleared the left field fence to give Covington a 2-0 lead.
Covington scored once again in the second and three times in the third thanks ago a two-run homer by Meg Rogers to take a 6-0 lead.
The Lady Buccs scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, while Bethel scored a run each in the sixth and seventh when the game was well in hand for Covington.
Covington pounded out 14 hits as a team with Nigella Reck leading the way by going 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and scoring twice herself. Meg Rogers had a big day as well by going 3-for-3 and driving in fourth runs.
Rogers also picked top the win in the circle as she allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out four in going the distance.
Covington improves to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the TRC. The Lady Buccs host Riverside tomorrow (Tuesday).
