BRANDT – The Covington Lady Buccs are a relatively young softball team, but they have started the season in grand fashion by recording their second straight victory by a run-rule, tonight a 15-1 win over Bethel.

Covington scored one run in the first, another in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and five in the fifth. The only run scored by Bethel came in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Buccs racked up 18 hits on the night with senior Karyanne Turner, junior Elizabeth Coblentz, sophomore Taylor Foutz and freshman Ava Hartwig leading the way with three hits each. Emalyn Johnson had two hits, while Jayda McClure, Kamryn Barnes, Stevi Newhouse and Whitney Burns all had one hit.

The biggest hits in the game came on home runs by Jayda McClure and Ava Hartwig. Karyanne Turner connected on a triple, while Emalyn Johnson had two doubles and Elizabeth Coblentz, Taylor Foutz and Karyanne Turner recorded a double each.

Whitney Burns went the distance in the circle for the second straight game. She allowed just three hits, while striking out four batters and walking just one. The defense behind her didn’t commit any errors.
