COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs pounded out 25 hits in a 24-2 victory over Northridge to improve to 17-3 overall and 8-1 in the TRC on Tuesday.
The Lady Buccs set the tone early by plating tern runs in the bottom of the first with the big hits coming off the bat of Nigella Reck on a grand slam. It was Reck’s 13th home run of the season, which leads the league by 10 home runs.
With the game well in hand the Lady Buccs worked on situational softball and gave every player on the roster an opportunity at the plate and in the field. Still, Covington scored six runs in the second, three in the third and five in the fifth despite holding runners up at bases.
Covington also used three pitchers in the contest with Erika Gostomsky picking up the win. Gostomsky tossed the first inning and finished the game in the fifth inning, while Jayda McClure threw two innings in the second and third and Whitney Burns pitched in the fourth inning. The trio combined to strike out ten batters, allowed just two hits and walked three batters. Both runs scored by Northridge were unearned, once on a passed ball and the other from an error.
Offensively, every Lady Bucc player contributed to the scoring effort by recording at least one hit or driving in at least one run.
Covington travels to Troy Christian tomorrow (Wednesday) in another league matchup.
