COVINGTON – In a neighboring rivalry against Newton, the Covington Lady Buccs captured an impressive win in three sets by the scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-13,

What was most impressive in this contest was how well the Lady Buccs played in the opening sets. This is due to the struggles early in games throughout the first three contests. Starting off with intensity made this competition enjoyable.

“We have seen Newton in a scrimmage early in the season and were prepared for a tough match,” said Covington’s coach Sloane Green. “I thought we played great defense tonight and are working hard at getting everyone involved offensively.”

The effort, execution and intensity by the Lady Buccs carried on throughout the entire contest as they dominated throughout all three sets. It was obvious due to the scores.

Individually, Ava Hartwig had the most of Covington’s attacking attempts, finishing with 12 kills. Ramsé Vanderhorst served tough throughout the contest with 2 aces and 10 digs.

Plus., Kylie Palsgrove and Nadia Ramirez also played great defense by recording eight digs a piece.

The Lady Buccs are now 3-1 at this point of the season in all four games against non-conference opponents. There is another non-conference matchup game against Jackson Center at home next Monday.
