HOMETOWN HERO: TED PEACOCK

TED PEACOCK
U.S. NAVY (1968-1970)

Ted Peacock is a 1967 graduate from Covington High School and joined the United States Navy in August of 1968. His boot camp took place at Gulfport, Mississippi for seven weeks and then went to Port Hueneme, California with further training as an Equipment Operator at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in California.

Peacock’s first deployment was in Da Nang, South Vietnam at Camp Haskins as a part of Battalion MCB-3. Some in the Battalion were already deployed before Peacock arrived as he got up with them two-thirds of their way through their deployment, so he was there for the last three months with a return trip back after three months at Port Hueneme. Two weeks before he returned to Vietnam, a change of orders sent his unit to Okinawa, Japan for a nine-month deployment. During his time in Okinawa, Peacock competed in the sport of football.

When returning from Vietnam, United States President Richard Nixon was on hand to greet the service members for their dedication to the country.

A quote from Ted Peacock; “I was raised by the Greatest Generation and the Greatest Community.”
