COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers dropped to 3-10 overall and 0-8 in the TRC after a 58-38 loss to Troy Christian in front of the hometown crowd on Friday.

The Buccs struggled putting the ball through the net early on as they only converted on two buckets in the opening frame – one each from Brogen Miller and Bryson Hite. Fortunately the Buccaneer defense limited Troy Christian to just 10 points in the opening frame.

Covington opened the second period on fire, beginning with a basket by Bryson Hite. Mic Barhorst followed with a runner and went to the free throw line after being fouled on the shot. Barhorst missed on the free throw, but hustled to gather the rebound and converted on the stick back to tie the score at 10-10.

With the Buccaneer crowd on its feet, Troy Christian called a timeout, which ultimately turned the momentum in a hurry. After a tongue lashing, the Eagles went on a 13-0 run to go up 23-10.

Brogen Angle, who led the Buccs with 13 points on the night, connected on a three-pointer for Covington to end the run, but Troy Christian closed out the first half with a 27-16 lead.

Covington battled hard in the third by outscoring Troy Christian 13-10 in the third. Brogen Angle scored five points in the frame on a trey and a jumper, while Gunner Kimmel scored on a pair of baskets inside the paint. Mic Barhorst and Britton Miller hit a basket a piece as the Buccaneers went into the final period within striking distance, 37-29.

Unfortunately Covington couldn’t keep the momentum going down the stretch as Troy Christian outscored the Buccs 21-9 in the final period.

Covington travels to Houston tomorrow night.
