COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers played right with Milton-Union on Friday, but came up short in a razor thin 40-36 defeat.
And it was Covington’s misfortune at the free throw line that proved to be the difference as the Buccaneers converted on 6 of 12 attempts.
Each period was extremely close, but the visiting Bulldogs held a slim lead throughout the majority of the game. Covington trailed 14-11 after one, 22-19 at the break and 29-28 at the end of the third.
Within striking distance, the Buccaneers managed just eight points in the final frame on a trey by Bryson Hite, a bucket by Tanner Palsgrove and a traditional three-point play by Brogen Angle.
Milton-Union only converted win three field goals as well in the final period, but took advantage of opportunities at the free throw line by connecting on five of eight attempts.
The Buccs fall to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the TRC. Next up is another tough TRC contest on Tuesday at Lehman.
