
COVINGTON – The Covington Lady Buccs had themselves in a close game against Versailles until scoring 15 runs in the bottom of the fourth to ignite a 17-1 victory in five innings.
The Lady Buccs made a lot of contact early, but several balls went high into the air for outs. Neither team could score throughout the first two innings, but the Lady Buccs were able to adjust themselves at the plate and finally scored twice in the bottom of the third.
Versailles scored a run in the top of the fourth on an error committed by Covington, but the Lady Buccs broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth.
Things started off with a solo home run by Emalyn Johnson, which was the first of four home runs in the fourth inning by Covington – two by Jayda McClure and one more by Elizabeth Coblentz. Those four hits were the highlights of the 15 runs scored by Covington in the bottom of the fourth.
Emalyn Johnson went 3-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Ava Hartwig went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Elizabeth Coblentz went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and 1 RBI. Jayda McClure went 2-for-4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs. Whitney Burns went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBIs.
Covington racked up 17 hits on the day and the defense with Whitney Burns in the circle only surrendered three hits to Versailles. Burns recorded her 10th win of the season as a pitcher.
Th Lady Buccs are now 11-7 and host Russia tomorrow.
