COVINGTON – A 3on3 basketball tournament that generated intention and beneficial money for the Buccaneer basketball program was so fun to watch due to so many athletic players throughout the entire day on Saturday.
The tournament started in the morning at 10:00am with adults and high school teams competing against each other. The names of the teams were Birb, Too Old For The Ship, Rest Break-Bye, Kent – Parker – Brairen – Landin, and Brogan – Cooper – Bryson – Tanner. The team that won the championship was Too Old For The Ship and the runner-ups were Brogan – Cooper – Bryson – Tanner.
Next competition was junior high basketball teams named TD Up Turtles, Team Legit, Great Lakes, and Casstown Boys. The Casstown Boys from Miami East won the championship and the team that finished second was Team Legit from Covington.
The final competitions were youth teams of boys in grades fourth through fifth and girls in grades fourth through sixth. The boys teams were named Team Roeth, Team Lear, and Team Schneider, while the girls teams were named Dynamic, Flamingoes, The Unicorns, and Fogs. Flamingoes won the championship and the Dynamic team won second place. Team Roeth won the youth boys tournament and the Team Lear finished second.
What was so impressive and enjoyable throughout the day was how well all of the kids played with high intensity and energy. Hopefully all of the same kids continue to play throughout their entire time at Covington because it will lead to future success.
What also made the day successful was how well the community members that attended the event supported the players and provided money to the help out the basketball program. Hopefully this 3on3 tournament becomes an annual event because it will continue benefitting Covington kids.
A huge “THANK YOU” goes to the Covington Bucc Boosters, who hosted the event – and to the Buccaneers’ varsity basketball coach Logan Carey. Him and his entire staff are going above and beyond to try and rebuild the standard culture and future success of the basketball program.
