COVINGTON – Jayden Wackler, a 2026 Covington graduate, committed to extend his golfing career and education at Defiance College as he signed up on Friday with many supporters present.

Jayden plans on majoring in Computer Science and enjoy the golf experience with the help of his future college coach, Matt Gehring.

“After being recruited by Coach Matt and having the opportunity to visit the Defiance College campus, I knew it was the right fit for me,” Jayden explained. “Both Coach Matt and the people there (at Defiance) made me feel welcomed.”

Jayden Wackler put together a memorable high school golf experience under the Buccaneer coaching staff, Bill Wise and Bill Shafer.

“I would like to thank my Great Grandfather, Bill Shafer,” said Jayden. “It was his golf outing the summer before my junior year that first drew me into the sport, which ultimately led me to join the golf team at Covington and pursue the game I love now.”

He also credited all of his other coaches, his family and friends. His parents are Jaime Wackler, Jason and Susan Wackler.

“My parents, friends, coach Logan Carey (basketball coach), coach Bill Wise (head coach in golf), and my personal golf coach, Kyler Booker, they all helped me,” praised Jayden.

In his senior season Jayden finished second in the TRC and earned First-Team All-TRC. He averaged 43 strokes and compiled 95.5 points throughout the season. He was also earned Honorable Mention in the league as a junior in 2024.

“As a part of the golf team, we had back-to-back successful seasons,” said Jayden. “I highlighted by the personal best round of 2-under par.”

Jayden also excelled very well academically at Covington and spent some time at Edison Community College while in high school.

“I am proud to have maintained a 3.55 GPA while taking college credit courses through Edison,” said Jayden.

Due to the mentality Jayden carried throughout his time in Covington, he is set up to have success at Defiance. Plus, he already put together goals he wants to accomplish.

“Beyond competing at the collegiate level, I hope to grow both as a golfer and a teammate while using my time at Defiance to work toward a career in Computer Science,” he explained.

Jayden Wackler will graduate this Sunday at Covington and will be in an ideal situation to set himself up for future success at Defiance College.
