
WEST MILTON – Covington won its fourth straight game with a 11-1 victory over Milton-Union in six innings on Friday.
The Lady Buccs took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and didn’t allow the Bulldogs to score throughout the rest of the game due to outstanding defensive plays. The most important defensive performance was when the Lady Buccs prevented Milton-Union from scoring with the bases loaded and one out.
Covington pushed its lead to 5-1 with three runs in the top of the third and then broke the game wide open with six runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Throughout the game the Lady Buccs hit the ball extremely hard and Milton-Union was able to make some amazing defensive plays to pull away more potential scorers. The most impressive play by Milton was when the center fielder made an amazing catch at the fence to eliminate a home run.
Fortunately, Covington’s powerful hitting had a huge impact on the final score with the two biggest hits were home runs by Kylie Palsgrove and Emalyn Johnson. Palsgrove now has 7 home runs so far this season and Johnson has 6.
Throughout the game the Lady Buccs pounded out 14 hits with the two home runs and doubles by Emalyn Johnson and Jayda McClure.
Milton-Union played well despite the final score due to 10 hits and only two errors.
Whitney Burns went the distance in the circle for Covington to capture her eighth win of the season and she only allowed one earned run. Defensively, the Lady Buccs played very well as they only committed one error.
Covington is 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the TRC with the next game being at home against Bradford on Monday.
