LADY BUCCS DEFEAT VERSAILLES IN SIXTH INNINGS

COVINGTON – In only the second home game of the season, the Covington Lady Buccs had a nice crowd in place to enjoy a convincing 14-2 run-run victory over Versailles in six innings.

The game started off close as the Lady Buccs held a 3-2 lead after the first inning and the score remained the same heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Covington then broke the game open by scoring seven runs in the fifth to take a 10-2 lead. The Lady Buccs captured several powerful hits in the inning and took advantage of two errors committed by Versailles.

Leading by eight runs heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Buccs continued their aggressiveness at the plate. Taylor Foutz led off with a hit and followed up by scoring a run to push the lead to 11-2. The Lady Buccs then loaded the bases and Jayda McClure drilled a triple to close out the game 14-2.

The Lady Buccs put together one of their best defensive performances of the season as they didn’t commit a single error. The ladies also took advantage of the three errors by Versailles.

Covington outhit the Lady Tigers 16 to 9 and the Lady Buccs didn’t strike out at all.

Emalyn Johnson and Taylor Foutz led the Lady Buccs with three hits each, one being a triple by Johnson and one a double by Foutz. Cassidy Iddings, Emma Ouellette and Karlee Schwartz all had two hits each, one being a triple by Ouellette and one a double by Iddings. Additional hits were provided with triples by Ava Hartwig and Jayda McClure, along with singles by Whitney Burns and Kylie Palsgrove.

Whitney Burns pitched the entire game to capture her fourth win of the season.

The Lady Buccs now have a 7-1 record and will travel to Miami East tomorrow in a huge game in the TRC.
