DAYTON – Covington opened up the 2026 season with two dominating 26-0 and 30-2 victories over Northridge in double-headers on Saturday.

Both games started off with large scoring leads for the Lady Buccs as they built 12-0 and 13-0 leads in each first inning. This gave Covington opportunities to work on various fundamentals throughout the entire day – primarily slaps and bunts at the plate. It also led to the entire roster receiving several innings on the field to gain valuable experience.

Overall, the Lady Buccs tallied a total of 38 hits throughout the day with 17 in the first game and 21 in the second game. Plus, The Lady Buccs didn’t strike out at all throughout the entire day.

In the first game Ava Hartwig led the Lady Buccs with 4 hits, a home run and 6 runs scored, while Emalyn Johnson had a team-high 5 RBIs. All but two players on the roster were able to connect with hits in the opening game and the two others were able to have impacts in other ways, RBIs and runs scored.

In the second game freshmen Kayleigh Deeter and Karlee Schwartz led the team with 4 hits each and combined for 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Kylie Palsgrove had a huge game as she went 3-for-3 with a home run, 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

There were three Lady Buccs who received pitching opportunities with Whitney Burns and Jayda McClure combining for zero hits in the first game, while McClure and Cassidy Iddings combined to only allow 4 hits on the second game.

With the two wins, Covington starts the season with a 2-0 overall record and a 2-0 record in the TRC. Next is another road game on Monday against a talented Arcanum team.
