
DEGRAFF – After a scoreless game through eight innings, the Covington Buccaneers erupted with five runs in the ninth to capture a 5-1 win over Riverside.
Covington got on the board in the top of the ninth inning after Ashton Skaggs singled to the left side of the infield, Caiden Hollingsworth singled to center field, and Tyler Palsgrove walked. The Buccs also scored on a wild pitch and each of the hitters scored.
Tyler Jay earned the win for Covington as he went the distance. He gave up seven hits and one run (zero earned) over nine innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Covington collected 12 hits in the game. Garrett Leistner and Tyler Palsgrove each collected three hits for the Buccs. Caiden Hollingsworth and Ashton Skaggs each drove in one run and the Buccs had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Tanner Palsgrove and Tyler Jay led the team with two free passes each. Covington turned one double play in the game.
The Buccs improve to 11-9 overall and 8-6 in the TRC.
