DAYTON – The Covington Buccaneers captured an impressive 3-0 win over Dayton Christian on Wednesday to advance to the district final.

The game was scoreless through the first four innings, but the Buccaneers were able to score two runs in the top of the fifth inning due to a double by freshman Hunter McMillion.

Covington scored one more secured run in the top of the seventh.

Senior pitcher Tyler Jay threw a great game as he allowed just three hits throughout the entire game and the defense behind him helped record a shutout victory. Jay struck out nine batters and surrendered just two walks. Defensively, the Buccaneers played nearly perfect as there were no errors committed throughout the entire game.

Hunter McMillion led the Buccs with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup, while Briaren Denson connected on a hit as well. Kian French also had a huge impact as he drew three of the six walks accumulated by the Buccs. French also stole two bases to put the Buccs into scoring position.

The Buccs are now 14-10 and will compete in the district final against Cincinnati Summit Country Day on Friday at Germantown Valley View at 2:00pm.
