COVINGTON – Entering the post season tournament as the number one seed, the Covington Lady Buccs took care of business with a 17-0 victory over #21 seed Legacy Christian in the second round of the sectional tournament.

Covington took over the game early by scoring 14 runs in the first inning and followed by rotating the entire roster into the lineup throughout the rest of the game. Even though runners were held up on the base paths, the Lady Buccs still managed to score three more runs over the next three innings for a run rule victory.

The Lady Buccs pounded out 20 hits and walked nine times.

Maggie Anderson, Reaghan Lemp and Kamryn Barnes all had three hits each, while Emma Ouellette, Nigella Reck and Karyanne Turner connected on two hits each. Patience Alexander, Mara Newhouse, Taylor Foutz, Erika Gostomsky and Whitney Burns all connected on hits as well. Meg Rogers walked three times and Jayda McClure walked once.

Erika Gostomsky threw one inning and Whitney Burns threw four innings. Burns struck out nine batters and allowed just one walk, while Gostomsky struck out one batter and didn’t surrender a walk.

Covington improves its record to 24-4 on the season and will play at Riverside in a makeup game on Monday to end the regular season. A win by Covington will lock up a second straight conference championship.

Tournament play for Covington resumes on Tuesday at home against the winner of the game between Botkins and Tri-County North.
