LADY BUCCS PICK UP TWO WINS IN COVINGTON CLASSIC

COVINGTON – Covington hosted the annual Covington Classic on Saturday and recorded two more wins by defeating Arcanum 7-5 and Troy 14-4.

In them first contest against Arcanum, the Lady Buccs built a 6-1 lead through five innings with one run in the second, a run in the third and four more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Things became closer as Arcanum took advantage of a few mistakes by the Lady Buccs that led to four runs in the top of the sixth. Fortunately, Covington was able to score a run in the bottom of the sixth and then close out the game by holding Arcanum in check in the seventh.

Covington outhit Arcanum 13-9, but the two errors committed by the Lady Buccs made the game closer than needed. Whitney Burns picked up the win in the circle.

The Lady Buccs then played very well in an impressive 14-4 victory in six innings over Troy in the second game. Offensively, Covington scored in each inning with three runs in the first, second and sixth inning, two runs in the third and fourth inning, and one run in the fifth.

Covington tallied 14 hits and allowed just five hits to Troy. Cassidy Iddings threw all six innings to record the win.

Overall, the Lady Buccs connected on three home runs on the day to increase the team record to 39 home runs on the season. Jayda McClure hit one against Arcanum, while Elizabeth Coblentz and Emalyn Johnson hit home runs against Troy.

The Lady Buccs now have a 16-8 record and travel to Riverside in a makeup game on Tuesday.
