TROY – The Covington volleyball team put together a memorable season, but unfortunately things didn’t go the Lady Buccs’ way on Saturday in a district final loss to Fort Loramie at Troy High School.
Fort Loramie is a program accustom to making deep tournament runs on a yearly basis and the Lady Buccs gave the Lady Redskins all they could handle and then some in the opening set.
Unfortunately for Covington, Fort Loramie was able to pull out a 26-24 win in the opening set to capture the momentum in an environment of high intensity and emotion.
The Lady Redskins used the momentum to cruised to a 25-12 win in the second set and take a 2-0 lead.
But there is a a lot of fight in the Lady Buccs, which was on display in the third set. Granted, Fort Loramie was able to end the contest with a 25-21 win, but the Lady Buccs made their opponent earn nearly every point the hard way.
In the end it was a heartbreaking defeat for Covington due to the stakes that were on the line, but overall the effort the girls gave leads to high hopes for the future – even though the Lady Buccs lose four seniors; Lauren York, Ella Remley, Reagan Lemp and Nigella Reck.
Covington finished with a 17-9 record.
