COVINGTON – Cheerleading in Covington has been a very successful for so many years and on Sunday the Lady Buccs hosted a cheerleading competition in the home school with several programs around the area.
What made the competition amazing was the large amount of people who entered the gymnasium to watch their special teams compete throughout the day – teams that were early in the morning at the youth level and teams in junior high and high school in the afternoon.
Longtime Covington cheer advisor, Gretchen Schmidt, who is in Covington’s Athletic Hall of Fame as an honorary member due to the cheerleading culture she has established over so many years, was the one who set up the competition. In order to do that, Gretchen put in a huge amount of time to organize the cheerleading competition with several teams in the area.
Overall, the entire day for cheerleading went well and hopefully this becomes an event in Covington every year.
