WEST MILTON – The Covington Lady Buccs improved their overall record to 14-4 on the season and 11-0 in the TRC with a convincing victory over Milton-Union in three sets.
All three sets were controlled by the Lady Buccs as they won by the scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-9.
It was a huge boost of confidence for Covington after a three tough games on Saturday against New Bremen, Versailles and Lima Shawnee. The Lady Buccs lost to New Bremen and Versailles, but defeated Lima Shawnee, who beat Versailles. With New Bremen going 3-0 on Saturday and all three other teams going 1-2 showed just how competitive the competition was across the board.
For Covington, there was little time to regroup after a pair of tough losses, but the Lady Buccs showed the grit and determination by elevating their execution against Milton-Union. That’s why all three sets were pretty much in control from start to finish.
One of the keys to victory was the aggressive serving. Mazelle Rack and Nell Rogers did very well as they combined for 11 of the 16 aces accumulated by Covington. Reck had six aces and Rogers had five aces.
Another huge factor was the defensive performance. The Lady Buccs played fairly well as they accumulated 34 digs on the night. Ramse Vanderhorst had the most with 10 digs, while Hollan Koffer and Addison Ventura both had nine digs each.
Plus, Ava Hartwig played strong at the net as she recorded four of the nine blocks Covington had.
Offensively, Addison Ventura had the most assists with 16 and Taylor Kirker had 14 assists and nine kills. The most kills were pounded out by Hollan Koffer, as she accumulated 12.
The Lady Buccs have a two-game lead in the TRC standings with three more league contests still on the schedule against Lehman, Riverside and Miami East. Next up is a home game against Lehman on Thursday.
