TROY – The Covington Buccaneers had so many opportunities to put runs on the board, but couldn’t come through at critical times in a 5-3 loss to Troy Christian.
Covington outhit the Eagles 9 to 5, but left 11 runners on base to just 3 for Troy Christian.
The trend started in the opening inning as the Buccaneers loaded the bases in the first inning with one out. Unfortunately the runners were left on base as the Eagle were able to get out of the jam.
The game was scoreless until Troy Christian scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Covington finally scored a run in the top of the sixth, but the Eagles respond with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
The Buccaneers continued to battle by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough for a comeback.
Tyler Jay threw very well for Covington as he went the distance on the mound. Jay struck out eight batters, allowed just five hits and only walked two batters. The defense behind him played well as no errors were committed.
The loss drops Covington’s record to 4-6 on the season and 3-3 in the TRC.
